Marion J. Greene, 98, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2020, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
Marion was born on Nov. 18, 1921 in East Rutherford, N.J., daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Lown) Lambert.
On June 21, 1941, she married “Hans” Horace H. Greene in New Jersey, sharing nearly 58 years of marriage before he predeceased her in 1998. Marion and Hans moved to Treadwell in 1947, operating a dairy farm for 31 years. Chores and children filled her days. She was known for being an excellent cook and baker, and loved sewing projects. As her family grew, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her life with love and joy. She also enjoyed spending time with her cherished friends.
Marion was a longtime member of the Treadwell Methodist Church and Treadwell Community Club.
She is survived by six children: Joan (Richard) LaBar of Ellenville, Virginia Blackman of Smithfield, Va., Allen (Carol) Greene of Delhi, Bett (Roy) Stiefel of Zephyrhills, Fla., Susan (Joseph) Taggart of Franklin, Timothy (Donna DeCarr) Greene of Davenport and daughter-in-law Debra Greene of Otego; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sisters Ruth Eller, Florence (Bud) Nelson and Mary Laube; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Marion was predeceased by her son, Ronald Greene; son-in-law, John Blackman; brothers Frank, Edward, Earl, and Arthur Lambert and sisters, Eleanor Hopper and Myrtle Baxter.
The family appreciates and thanks the staff at A.O. Fox Nursing Home for the many years of kind and loving care they provided Marion.
Friends were invited to call on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 5-8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel with Pastor Betsy Ott officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marion’s memory may be directed to the Treadwell Methodist Church, 68 Church Street, Treadwell, NY 13846 or Treadwell Fire Department (c/o Lisa Huyck, 69 Miller Road, Treadwell NY 13846).
