Marion Gile

Marion Gile was born April 3, 1925 in Roxbury, the daughter of Raymond and Ida (Ruteshouser) Cronk. She graduated from Stamford Central High School in 1942, the valedictorian of her class. She then graduated from Albany Business College with a degree in accounting.

On May 11, 1947 she married Harold (Bud) Gile of Delhi. He was manager of Arbuckles’ Department Store, Roxbury branch. After Arbuckles’ left Roxbury, Marion and Bud opened Bud’s County Store and operated it for 29 years and then sold it to Al and Barbara Vigna in 1977. Marion worked for the law firm of Govern, McDowell, and Baker doing income taxes for 18 years. She was also deputy clerk and bookkeeper for the town of Roxbury for 18 years until she retired in 1998.

Marion passed on Feb. 12 at Mountainside Residential Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband Bud of 62 years in 2010. She is survived by her three children, Marge of Newark, Steve (Jan) of Cobleskill, and Jim (Debbie) of Graham, N.C. Marion is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Marion loved her family dearly and enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was a lifetime member of the Gould Memorial Church and a member of the Roxbury Senior Club.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation and a memorial service for Marion on Friday, March 4, from 1-3 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury. Rev. Dykstra will offer a prayer service. Interment will be in the spring.
