Lynn S. Gorton

Lynn S. Gorton, 83, most recently of Sidney, quietly walked into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021. He was born in Bainbridge to George and Sarah Gorton, the youngest sibling to Bruce (who predeceased him) and Doris G. Cook who survives him.

Lynn married his ‘better half,’ Loretta Babcock, in February 1963 and together they shared 58 years of marriage, living most of it in Unadilla; and the joy of three children, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lynn was a very hard worker. He worked on his family’s farm, other farms, at Scintilla/Bendix/Amphenol for over 40 years, delivered propane for Howe Gas of Unadilla, drove school bus for Unatego and helped others in any way he could. He provided a safe and loving home for his family, friends, and his children’s friends without complaint. Lynn was seen riding his bicycle anywhere from Oneonta to Afton to wherever, ringing the bell and waving to everyone. Since returning to Sidney in 2019, and prior to that when they lived in Florida, Lynn traded his bicycle for a power scooter and was seen riding it all over town with his beloved dog, Snuggles. Lynn was a prankster with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed tasty food and could strike up a conversation with anyone at any time making countless friends while he traveled on this earth. He and Loretta enjoyed traveling this country and a few cruises to the Caribbean. He loved listening to old country songs, doing word search puzzles, watching baseball games, and talking about the good old days.

Lynn is survived by his wife Loretta, children Bev and Dave Rutenber, (Sidney) Barbara and Shawn Seiber, (Bremerton, Wash.) and Lynn and Maria Gorton (Umatilla, Fla.); his grandchildren Tyler and Melissa Rutenber, Katie and Tim Day, and Jessica Gorton, six great-grandchildren, his sister Doris Cook, brothers-in-law Dennis Babcock, Ralph and Millie Babcock and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Gateway Alliance Church, Circle Drive, Sidney.

Lynn’s family is very grateful to the staff of Helios Care, especially Liz, Jamie and Paula, newest friend Donna and Landers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lynn’s name to Helios Care.

Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.landersfh.com.
