Lois J. Clark Stalter, 85, of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

Lois was born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Delhi to Lynn S. and Mildred (Truscott) Clark. She grew up on the family farm on Elk Creek Road with her brothers, David and Peter, and sister Celia. Lois loved being a farm girl and was proud to drive the team of horses in the fields for her father.

She graduated from Delaware Academy with the class of 1951. She was the drum majorette in the band and loved playing basketball and field hockey.

She attended Green Mountain College in Vermont for one year, returning home to marry the handsome hired man from down the road. She and Kenneth H. Stalter Jr., the son of Kenneth H. and Edith (McNair) Stalter Sr., were married on Sept. 6, 1952, in Delhi.

In 1955-56, Lois and their young son Kenny joined Ken in Germany where he was stationed in the Army.

Upon their return to the states, they purchased a dairy farm on Route 357 in Franklin, where they worked hard and raised their family. Lois was the ultimate farmer’s wife. She did much of the field work and was an excellent herdsman. She was the best, most supportive mother and grandmother imaginable. She attended innumerable sporting events, concerts, plays and school functions of both her children and grandchildren.

She always had a beautiful flower garden and gigantic vegetable garden.

Lois loved to cook and bake and was always planning a get together “down on the flat” or “at the lake.”

Lois and Ken were great collectors and spent many happy Sundays at the flea markets. They loved to travel and Lois was always planning the next adventure, whether it was a camper trip out West or taking friends to their beloved Switzerland.

Lois and Ken loved the Franklin community and were involved in many things: Methodist Church Crusaders, floats at the Walton fair, Memorial Day parades, the historical society, Old Franklin Day. Lois had an extensive vintage clothing collection and for many years presented fashion shows for Old Franklin Day and many other groups. If you needed a costume for a play or Halloween you knew who to call.

LoLo, as she was known to her beloved grandchildren, was the best grandmother in the world. The cousins spent many fun-filled happy days with LoLo and PaPa.

Lois is survived by her daughter Lori and Scott White; her son Shane and Heather Stalter; her daughte-in-law, Janice Stalter; her grandchildren, Kenneth Stalter and Katharine Simmons, Kathryn and Michael Siedsma, Rebekah Stalter and Harinder Singh, Tyler White and Alexandra von Bieberstein, Lily Stalter, Kiah Stalter, Alex White, Troy White and Mara Stalter; her great-grandchildren, Owen Siedsma, Clark Siedsma, KC Stalter, Zoravar Singh, and another expected soon; her brothers, David and Reeva Clark, and Peter and Lauren Clark; and a sister Celia Clark.

She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth H. Stalter Jr.; her son Kenneth D. Stalter; her son Wayne C. Stalter; her granddaughter, Leah Stalter; and her sister-in-law Linda Clark.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at the Franklin United Methodist Church, Franklin. Burial will follow in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
