Lize Mogel: Catskill Water Discovery Center’s Speaker Series

Posted

The next episode of the Catskill Water Discovery Center’s Speaker Series will be Saturday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m., at the Catskill Watershed Corporation building, 669 County Highway 38, Arkville.

Lize Mogel, artist, educator, counter-cartographer and author of Views from the Watershed Podcast Tour will share her experiences and knowledge of the NYC/Catskills Watershed in this presentation.

Mogel has mapped public parks in Los Angeles, territorial disputes in the Arctic, and wastewater economies in New York City. She has exhibited and presented her work nationally and internationally. Her focus since 2016 has been on Walking the Watershed, a long-term engagement with the landscape, history, and politics of New York City’s water supply, and the relationship between NYC and the mostly rural communities that supply its water.

This telling of the complicated relationship between the Catskills and New York City that has been forged by water infrastructure will lead listeners to resonant places in the watershed where its stories can be told, through firsthand, intimate perspectives from local people on what it means to be a part of the water system.
