Kathlyn “Kathy” June Bakker, 77, of Walton, passed away peacefully Jan. 24, 2022, at her home after a brief illness.

Born June 20, 1944, in Walton, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Shirley (Jump) Underwood. She married the love of her life Samuel Bakker on March 26, 1961, in Walton. Sam predeceased her April 14, 2008, after 47 years of marriage.

She is survived by her four loving sons and daughter: Troy (Tina) Bakker, Duane (Merry) Bakker, Jonathan (Meredith) Bakker, Timothy (Joy) Bakker and Debe Sines; 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; sister Lisa Haynes and in-laws Barbara Gaeta, Linda Sperry, David Bakker, Pat Kohler, Sharon Underwood and Daryl and Cindy Bakker. Kathy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Kathy was predeceased by her brother Lawrence Underwood; sister Rose (Dwight) Phoenix; brother-in-law Louie Gaeta and nephews Louie and Neil Gaeta.

Kathy and her husband Sam married and settled down in their hometown of Walton, on a farm on East Brook. Kathy was a busy wife, mom and grandmother when she decided to pursue her education in nursing at the age of 38. In 1986 Kathy completed her associate in nursing and started working as a registered nurse for Delaware County Public Health for many years until retirement in 1995. Kathy and Sam spent many years in California where their oldest son lived. During retirement on the West Coast, she was very involved in the church, Christian Motorcycle Association but most importantly enjoyed her time spent with Sam and her family. Kathy was known for her quilts, crocheting, sewing, baking, cake making for special events including her children or grandchildren’s’ special celebrations, and playing video games and showed her love for them with many, especially Zelda.

A celebration of Kathy’s life was held Saturday, Jan. 29, at New Hope Church, Walton, with Pastor Light officiating.

Burial in the spring will be private at the convenience of the family.
