Katharine S. Crane, 90, passed away on July 8, 2024, at Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton.
Katharine was born on June 5, 1934, in Catskill to Walter E. Stevens and Virginia Case.
Kay was best known for her avid birdwatching and birding trips, with binoculars always close by and bird feeders always full. A graduate of Cornell University, she retired in 1999 after 23 years as a teacher’s aide at Walton Elementary School. Kay was active at the Walton United Presbyterian Church and cherished her many friends and neighbors throughout Walton. She took pride in being a regular helping hand for the school weekend backpack program. She was lucky to have recently hosted her own 90th birthday party that included many friends and family from near and far. Kay and James Crane were both very philanthropic and donated significantly to many causes.
Kay was predeceased by her loving husband Jim and is survived by their children Richard R. (Patti) Crane of Livonia, Douglas (Kathleen) Crane of Honeoye Falls, Ann Crane of Walton, and Paul (Liane) Crane of Fairport; her brother Orrin (Shirley) Stevens of Littleton, Colorado; as well as nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many very special brothers and sisters in-law.
The service for Katharine Crane will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in Katharine’s name to the Walton United Presbyterian Church, 58 East Street, Walton, NY 13856.
