Jeanette I. Hinkley

Posted

On Christmas morning, her favorite holiday, Jeanette I. Hinkley passed away at the age of 77, after a long and courageous battle with recurring ovarian cancer.

Born on Aug. 5, 1943 in Oneonta to the late Philip and Beatrice Ireland of Unadilla, Jeanette was raised on the Ireland family farm on Crane Hill Road, where she lived all but 12 of her years.

Married to Robert F. Hinkley on Oct. 9, 1965, the couple of 55 years raised their two children, Suzanne and Andrew, in Unadilla.

Jeanette graduated from Sidney High School in 1961 and ended her career with retirement from Amphenol Aerospace. She served as a Councilwoman for the town of Sidney for the past four years.

With her husband, Jeanette volunteered for the Unadilla Fire Department in a variety of roles, including President of a company and an EMT over the span of 30 years.

Jeanette was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Sidney for over 40 years. She enjoyed many activities including baking, sewing and bird watching as well as fishing from the boat at the family camp on Black Lake. She will be remembered for her kind and soft spirit, commitment to traditional patriotic values and her undying love for her family. Her grandchildren and recent great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Robert F. Hinkley, children Suzanne M. Davis (Richard L. Davis) of S. New Berlin, and Andrew P. Hinkley (fiancée Heidi Dear) of Unadilla; grandchildren Matthew R. Lippa (fiancée Kaleigh R. Wright), Meghan R. Lippa, Lilly-Mae Hinkley and Parker D. Hinkley; great-grandchildren Alexander and Gabriel Lippa.

A private family service will be held.
