Jason Robert Townsend of Downsville, a correctional officer at Sullivan Correctional Facility and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton. He was 38.

The son of Terry and Julie Barnes Townsend, he was born July 13, 1981 in Walton.

Jason was an avid New York sports fan: he proudly supported the Yankees, Rangers, Giants, and Syracuse teams. He was a gamer and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Cavallo Townsend, at home; two daughters, Giuliana and Ciara; his parents, Terry and Julie Townsend of Downsville; a brother, Nic Townsend of Downsville; a sister, Allison Emerich and her husband Logan of Fishs Eddy; nieces and nephews, Landon, Zach, Catherine and Mia; his maternal grandparents, William and Lena Barnes of Downsville; his Godparents, Robert and Sherry Becker; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; his mother-in-law, Anna Cavallo; two sisters-in-law, Maria Woltjen and her husband Peter and Anna Marsalise and her husband Anthony; a brother-in-law, Nick Cavallo; and his best friend, Brian Elmendorf and his wife Crissie.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Gerald Townsend Sr. and Catherine Townsend; and his maternal great-grandparents, Nick and Iva Tompkins and great-grandmother Ella J. Barnes.

Limited visitation was Sunday, May 31, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe. Graveside services and burial took place Monday, June 1, at 11 a.m. in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiated.
