Janice A. Gill

Posted

Janice A. Gill, 79, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at UHS Delaware Valley Hospital after a brief illness of COVID-19 related complications.

Janice was born July 17, 1941 in Hamden, the daughter of Seba and Annetta (Bush) Hornbeck.  Janice graduated from Walton High School in 1959. She retired from Amphenol Corporation as a Supervisor of Dept. 35 in 1995. After retirement, Janice attended and graduated from Sullivan County Community College. In Jan’s earlier years of retirement, she enjoyed many bus trips with friends and former coworkers, craft shows and leather work.

Janice enjoyed and cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janice spent much of her retirement either taking care of or doing things for others.

Anyone who was fortunate enough to meet Janice were always welcomed into her home and treated as if they were family and became lifelong friends. Janice maintained many treasured friendships and was cherished and loved by everyone who had the opportunity to be part of her life, just as much as she was blessed by all those who were part of her life.

Surviving Janice are her three children, sons David (Ellen), Sidney Center and Dennis, Sidney, and daughter Susan of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jeannette (David) Peck, Gilbertsville; Jeremiah (Nicole Barnes), Sidney; Kyle Gill, Sidney and Drew Gill, Sidney; five great-grandchildren, Shane DuMond, Kylee Beckwith, Kayden Peck, Samantha Cunningham, and Rhian Gill; sisters Marylou Gladstone of Unadilla and Ida Herman, Virginia; and stepbrother Patrick Hall, Bainbridge. Janice was also survived by several nieces and nephews that were all very dear to her heart.

Janice was predeceased by her parents, brother James Hornbeck, sister Ada Hornbeck, sister-in-law Alberta Hornbeck, brothers-in-law Gary Gladstone and Charles Herman.

The family would like to thank our mom’s in-home nurses, Jennifer Barnhart and Jessica Mott, and Jeanette from Club 55 for the many lunches she delivered the last few years.

The family would also like to thank our mom’s lifelong friends Ruby Merrill, Janet Rude, Roxie Knight and Mrs. Lone for their friendship, regular lunch dates, and visits that were always a special treat for her. God Bless each of you.

As Janice requested, there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the Trout Creek Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Janice can be made to the Trout Creek Cemetery Association, Trout Creek, NY, 13847.
