James E. Crane

James E. Crane, 85, of Walton passed away peacefully on February 19, 2020.
Born June 18, 1934 in Montour Falls, a son of the late Robert and Florence (Wickham) Crane.
After attending SUNY Alfred and Cornell University, James was employed as a store manager of Roxbury G.L.F. and then Ashland Agway Inc. In 1966, James became County Executive Director of the Delaware County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He received several awards while employed with ASCS. James enjoyed working on his home, garden, and yard. He also took pride in repairing and showing classic cars. James was a long-time member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served on several committees. James also served two years as Cub Scout Pack 36 leader. From 1977 to 1985, James enjoyed his membership as a director and officer of Walton Kiwanis Club.
James is survived by his wife Katharine (Stevens) Crane of Walton; sisters Helen Crane of Ontario, Carol Crane of Palmer, Alaska, Ruth (Paul) Capotosto of Berwick, Pa.; brothers Fred Crane of New Castle, Ind., and Dave Crane of Chenango Forks. Also surviving James are children Richard R. (Patti) Crane of Livonia, Douglas (Kathy) Crane of Honeye Falls, Ann Crane of Walton, and Paul (Liane) Crane of Victor; brother-in-law Orrin (Shirley) Stevens of Littleton, Colo.; as well as nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his parents and brother Richard S. Crane.
A service to celebrate James’s life will be held at the Walton United Presbyterian Church at a day and time to be announced.
