This year Hanford Mills Museum will hold its annual ice harvest Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Weeks of cold weather has allowed the ice to grow thick enough for staff to plan a harvest - winter’s coolest tradition.
Visitors will see the traditional process used to harvest ice before the days of refrigeration.
Admission will be by donation rather than usual rates. Updates and more information will be available on Facebook, Instagram, and www.hanfordmills.org
About Hanford Mills Museum
Experience a story of innovation, ingenuity and entrepreneurship at a historic working mill site. Sheltered in a valley in the northwestern Catskills of New York, Hanford Mills Museum offers insights into the past and lessons about the relationships between people, the things they make, and the places they live. As one of only a handful of operating water-powered mills, the museum has earned a place on both the National and New York State Registers of Historic Places.
Hanford Mills, 51 County Highway 12, East Meredith, is 10 miles from Oneonta, and 15 miles from Delhi.
