Elizabeth Vietta Schmidt - “Libby” - passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 19, 2020.
Elizabeth was born on March 5, 1932 in Rock Rift, the daughter of the late Ira and Mabel (Dean) Moore. She was raised on the family farm in Rock Rift and later in Trout Creek.
Libby spent 59 years with the love of her life, Glenn Addison Schmidt Sr., who predeceased her in death on May 28, 2009. Libby retired after 50 years of working alongside her husband; both were proud owners & operators of Schmidt Trucking of Walton. “Running Bear” and “Cookie Maker” are now loaded and headed northbound.
Elizabeth took great pride in her family and was a wonderful mother to her children. Her greatest pride and joy was that of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved watching them all grow up and took pride teaching them to “believe” – in themselves, in their abilities and in their futures.
Elizabeth was known for her love of music, whether it was playing her guitar or any one of the many musical instruments she loved to play. She loved to attend blue grass festivals with her family and friends or just singing along with Dad.
Surviving Elizabeth are her children, Glenn Schmidt Jr. (Joan) of Walton, Pat Zawko (Peter) of Westmoreland, Linda Holbert of Milton, Del., Toni Schmidt of Walton; Step-sons Larry Schmidt (Carol) of Watertown, Lloyd Schmidt (Pat) of Davenport, Lynn Schmidt (Nancy); brother, Raymond Moore (Nancy) of Florida and her sister, Charlotte Mealius of Morris; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren all of whom she was especially proud of and who thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with each of them.
Besides her husband, Glenn, and parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her sons, David Schmidt Sr. and Stephen Schmidt; grandson Jeremiah Hulse; siblings Elmer Moore, Stanley Moore, Bernice Walley, Beatrice Peck and Carol Davis.
She joins her faithful and loving companion, Sammie, who brought her many years of love, joy and comfort.
A private burial for Elizabeth will take place at the convenience of the family at Walton Cemetery. A celebration of life to honor Elizabeth will take place at later date.
