Earl Wood, Jr., 71, of Walton passed away on Thursday, June 17, at his home.

Born on March 31, 1950 in Walton, he was a son of the late Earl Wood, Sr. and Jennie (Barnhart) Wood.

Earl was a family man. He cherished family gatherings, especially spending time with his grandchildren. “Pop,” as they all call him, always attended his grandchildren’s sporting events and livestock showing events at the fair. Earl passed on to his family his love for barbecuing in the great outdoors and maybe a secret or two to a special few. In his younger years, he loved running derby cars at the local county fairs and watching the races in Afton.  Earl was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with family. 

Survivors include his children, Lisa Nichols (Brian) of Walton, Patti Spinola of Tennessee, Richard Wood (Donna) of Walton, Janice Young (Ken) of Downsville and Tina Wood of Walton; his grandchildren, Tiara Barnhart (Logan), Dakota Nichols, Kailee Young, Kerry Young, Kenneth Young, Delana Wood, Richelle Wood, Heather Hunt and family and Erika Humes and family; a great-granddaughter, Layla Kate Barnhart; three sisters, Jean Gardepe, Margaret Robinson and Georgiana McCall; one brother, Donald Wood; a special nephew Ken Fitch and many other nieces, nephews and cousins, to whom he was known as “Uncle Squirrel.“

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Ella Mae Wood; and three sisters, Gert Fitch, Joyce Fitch and Sherry Smith.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 22 at 1 p.m. at the Walton Cemetery with Pastor Bosnyak officiating.
