Dorothy Hinkley

Dorothy M. Hinkley, 96, of Bloomville, passed away at home on Sept. 23, 2020 with family at her side. 

Dorothy was born to Wilford and Viola Barnhart on April 9, 1924 on their family farm in Bovina Center. 

She married John Hinkley Jr. on Feb. 28, 1947 in Bovina Center. John and Dorothy ran the family dairy farm in Bloomville for 31 years. After farming, Dorothy worked at Delhi Tech for 17 years. 

Dorothy is survived by three daughters: Joyce Halliday of Jacksonville, Fla., Jane Mattice of Broom Center, Gilboa, and Jan Bevins of Bloomville; a son, James Hinkley of Arcadia, Fla.; two sisters, Jane Howard of Delhi and Edith Platt; two granddaughters, four grandsons, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was predeceased by her husband, John Hinkley Jr. on June 20, 2003; three brothers, Herbert, Robert and Wilford Jr. 

Dorothy led a long, fruitful and healthy life. She loved her family and friends, her time at home in Delaware County and her winter home and friends in Arcadia, Fla. She had a lifelong passion for gardening, quilting and farm life. 

There will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time due to COVID-19 concerns.
