GySgt. (Ret.) Donald O. Barriger, 93, of Walton passed away peacefully on Sunday, March, 14 2021 at his home following a brief illness.

Born October 24, 1927 in Franklin, he was a son of the late Hiram and Jessie Walley Barriger.

Donald proudly served over 22 years in the Marine Corps retiring in January of 1968 as a Gunnery Sergeant. Don’s military service spanned three wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He received numerous awards and decorations during his 22 year military career. Upon leaving the Marines, Don went to work for Del Met in Walton for over 11 years as a Supervisor.

Donald is survived by his brother Raymond Barriger of Masonville and nieces Joyce Cook (Gary) of Clifton Park; Tammy Barriger of Walton, Stephanie Watson (Daniel Alexander) and numerous other nieces and nephews. Donald is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret A. Barriger who passed away on July 13, 2019; brothers Paul Barriger, Hiram Barriger, Jr. and Ken Barriger and sisters Jeanette Krum and Flossie Barriger.

A graveside service with full military honors to celebrate Don’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
