DelCo Complete Count Committee Urges 2020 Census Response Amidst Covid-19 Isolation

DELHI - Despite social isolation requirements amidst a global pandemic, the U.S. 2020 Census continues, according to Delaware County Complete Count Committee Representative and County Planner Sean Leddy.

New York state and specifically Delaware County are far behind in responding to the recently released census questionnaire. As of March 29, the national average response is 34.7 percent, while New York state response is 29.6 percent and the Delaware County response only 17.1 percent of the population.

Leddy urges all Delaware County residents to complete the census survey online or via telephone while remaining safely at home. “A complete count is paramount for our county to be eligible for our full apportionment of federal funding for all types of programs which benefit our residents and communities,” Leddy said. “This has become especially important as we look forward to a robust economic recovery.”

Future funding will be paramount in helping businesses and industries achieve a full recovery, Leddy said.

If census surveys are completed online or via telephone, an enumerator will not be sent to a residence, Leddy continued. Completing the survey online or via telephone will also limit potential exposure to the corona virus.

“This is a call to action for the roughly 83 percent of Delaware County who have not responded,” Leddy said.
