Davenport resident killed in early morning crash

DAVENPORT — An early morning crash on Sunday, Sept. 29, claimed the life of a Davenport resident after a vehicle struck a home on state Highway 23, according to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:03 a.m. when Jayden E. Aviles, 18, of Tarrytown, lost control of a 2013 Volkswagen Passat while traveling eastbound. Aviles was approaching a sharp left-hand curve when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and crashed into a private residence. The car came to rest in the living room of the home, where two men were sleeping.

Both men sustained serious injuries. One of the victims, 34-year-old Larry J. Vankeuren, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported from the scene. The other male victim, whose identity has not been released, remains hospitalized.

Assisting at the scene were Davenport, East Meredith, and Pindars Corners Fire Departments, multiple EMS units, and New York State Police.

The investigation is ongoing.
