Hello friends: July is done and that can mean only one thing – the Delaware County Fair can’t be far off now. I read something I wanted to share with all of you. This comes from Janice Young of Corbett, an involved 4-H mom: “We fill the bleachers on Friday nights for football. We fill the bleachers on cold winter nights for basketball. We travel miles and miles, to sit in the bleachers for volleyball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, and dance. Our 4-H and FFA families would like to invite you to fill the bleachers on a warm summer day during county fair week and watch the kids who practice with a 1200-pound plus steer that doesn’t always want to walk, a 140-pound lamb that doesn’t want to get on the stand for the 100th time, a 280 pound hog that just wants to stay in the cool barn or a stubborn goat that doesn’t like the chain. Come check out exhibit hall for all the non-livestock exhibitors. Those kids have heart and dedication and put hours into their creations. Let’s fill the bleachers, barns, and buildings to show these kids that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and because of them, the future of  agriculture and leadership is in good hands. Fair week is Aug. 12-17. I couldn’t say it any better; please support our kids.

Friday, Aug. 2 is the Corbett Community barbecue and bingo. Come and support this group of hard-working citizens who are making good things happen on Corbett.

DCS Summer Program comes to a close this week. Thanks to all who provided such wonderful activities for our children this summer. Now on to planning for a new year of learning - we appreciate all you do to prepare our children to become successful human beings in an ever-changing world.

I spent an interesting couple of hours with Samantha Edel (no relation to Art and Marsha) at a recent food pantry day. She is working with the Cornell Cooperative Extension/Smart Energy Choices. She is willing to come and speak to your group or to help you personally with a free energy assessment. For more information you can contact Samantha at 607-366-0833, ext. 3. There is grant money available for low-income participants as well as a 50% coverage of improvements up to $5000 for moderate income homes. If you are looking to upgrade your heating systems or further insulate your home, call Samantha to see if you may qualify.

The Colchester Historical Society is planning some interesting events. So far, the upgrades and repairs to their room at the town hall following the water damage from a broken pipe are coming along nicely. It will be good to have both the historical society room and the reading room back in service. Secondly, society members are putting together plans for an Old Time Family Fun, Crafts & Games Day – Sept. 21. More information will be forthcoming so mark your calendars and save the date. Their next meeting date is Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. For more information or to volunteer to become part of the group contact Kay Parisi-Hampel at 607-363-7303.

Some friends who would enjoy hearing from you all – Germaine Hayden; and Vicki Wells, 15018 St Hwy 30, Downsville NY 13755. Many of you know Germaine is currently at Lourdes Hospital hoping to be sent home with Comfort Care and Vicki recently had some medical issues but is home now and would love to hear from friends. Bill and Lena Barnes will be celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary, too. Congratulations and Best Wishes for many, many more.

You’ve probably already heard but the presidential election is coming up in 90+ days. Be sure to learn as much as you can and get out and vote for the candidate you feel will best lead our nation and its people. Peace~
