Cat Hollow Two Car Crash Kills One

Colchester Police are investigating a two car motor vehicle crash on state Route 206/county Route 7 (Cat Hollow Road), near Hill Top Lane, that occurred on Sunday, Feb. 27 at approximately 12:38 p.m.

A Subaru, operated by driven by George H. Fredericks, 81, of Roscoe, was traveling north, when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, striking a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Angelo Zayas, 49, of Livingston Manor, police said. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames when responding police and firefighters arrived on the scene.

Fredericks was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Zayas and a passenger were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash. Zayas had a dog in the vehicle which appeared in good health and was cared for at the scene until she could be reunited with family.

New York State Police and its Collision Reconstruction Unit, New York City Department of Environmental Police, Downsville and Roscoe Fire Departments and emergency services, Hancock Ambulance, AMR ambulance, Delaware County Emergency Services, Delaware County Department of Public Works, the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office and Nikos Towing assisted at the scene.

State Route 206/county Route 7 was closed through 6:29 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.
