Arlene J. Maye, 82, passed away on Dec. 7, 2021, at home after a long illness. Born in Walton, she was the daughter of Ivan and Madge Mauer. Raised on the farm, she became a hardworking, fun loving person who will surely be missed.

Arlene graduated from Walton Central School as a business major, Class of 1956. She received a diploma from the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance towing endorsement. Upon completion of sea school training, Arlene and Ed received their captain’s license and were instrumental in bringing the “African Queen” and “Thayer IV” to Old Saybrook to make possible public excursions on local waters. She was a dedicated employee of Cheesebrough Ponds for 25 years. Her greatest achievement was that of a faithful, loving Naval wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Valerie Ann Maye, April 5, 1972.

Surviving is one sister, Phyllis Currey of Burlington, N.C., and brother Burr (wife Tera) Mauer of Walton; her son, Michael Maye of West Palm Beach, Fla.; daughter Debra Lombardoni of Gloversville; daughter Cindy Wallace of Old Saybrook, Conn., and son Mika Maye of Killingworth, Conn.; many grandchildren and

great-grandchildren surviving.

She was predeceased was her husband Ed Kirko on July 24, 2021.

She, Peaches, will be remembered for her love of life with Ed (Alligator Ed) and their pursuit in fashion designs (Shot Fashions). She enjoyed playing the Hammond organ, dancing, fishing, walking, traveling, games, friends, and living near the ocean. Her most favorite saying was, “We are having more fun than people.”

Death is not dark: freedom has come. We loved her, we loved her, this precious one. Mom would say, “love one another” and “live your life with no regrets”.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
