Alta MacGibbon Holley

Alta MacGibbon Holley, 90, of North Port, Fla., passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

She was born Dec. 20, 1931 in Walton, the daughter of Donald and Maude (Lambrecht) MacGibbon. 

She married Norton E. Holley Jan. 26, 1951 in Delancey. Alta was predeceased by her husband on Aug. 7, 1989.

Alta worked alongside her husband on their farm for many years. After the farm was sold, she worked in the nursing home in Delhi for a few years. She then moved to Florida to be with her daughter, Wilma. A short time later, she moved in with a young couple with a three-month-old baby girl named Hayley and was her nanny for 18 years. She was part of their family and loved Hayley as if she were her own daughter. She was an avid reader and loved to do word puzzles.

Survivors include her children, Norton Holley Jr. (Bonnie), Ramona Sutherland (John), Wilma Holley, and Carol Garone (Frank) and grandchildren Jennifer and Nicholas (Kylie). Alta is also survived by sisters-in-law Betty MacGibbon, Audrey MacGibbon, Thelma Underhill and brother-in-law Phil Holley, and several nieces and nephews. 

Alta is predeceased by sisters Janet Fletcher and Jean Musson; brothers Richard, Raymond, John, Glen, Bobby, Jerry and Clyde MacGibbon.

A graveside service to celebrate Alta’s life will be held Friday July 1, at 1 p.m. at the Hamden Cemetery, 176 Cemetery Road Hamden. A reception will be held immediately after at the Delancey United Presbyterian Church, 444 County Hwy. 2,  Delancey.
