Alexander MacRae Adam, 57, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., passed away May 8, 2023, surrounded by loved ones after a difficult battle with cancer.

Alex Adam was born Sept. 7, 1965, to Alexandra and Robert Adam in Summit, N.J., and raised in New Jersey until moving to Walton during his middle school years.  Alex loved playing football, ran track, participated in drama club and student council when he was not working on his uncle’s farm.

He attended Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island, enhancing his culinary talents, then transferred to Johnson State College in northern Vermont where he could ski and hike, graduating with a BS degree in hospitality in 1988. During college he worked for the Trapp Family Lodge when Maria and her son were still there, and then Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream at their first location - we think he made them famous! He also interned at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., which sparked his lifelong love and career at Disney Hilton Head Resort. Alex added the Disney touch to everything he did.

Alex loved nature, skiing and hiking with his sons. He was an excellent chef and lifelong artist, with a large family and even larger group of friends. Alex’s loss is truly and deeply felt.

Alex is survived by his two sons, Caleb MacRae Adam, 24, and Noah Alexander Adam, 22, both of Hilton Head, S.C.; his mother Alexandra, and late father Robert Charles Adam of Ocean Gate, N.J., his brothers Robert C. Adam Jr. and wife Felicia Adam of Dallas, Texas, and Marc Duncan Adam and his wife Margaret Adam of Walton.

He will be buried alongside his grandparents in Fayetteville, N.C., with a celebration in Walton at a later date.

If you would like to make a donation in his honor, consider Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910, or Hilton Head Humane Association, PO Box 21790, HHI, SC 29925.
