The charming, historic atmosphere of Callicoon, a small hamlet tucked in the mountains of Sullivan County, is enough to keep visitors coming back. While the hamlet itself is quaint, the array of outdoor recreational activities, shops, restaurants, and lodging establishments offer everything a visitor may need to fill a weekend itinerary and look forward to planning their next trip back.

Lodging

Where you start and end your days away can make or break a trip. Luckily, Callicoon offers a variety of different lodging locations to highlight whichever features of the hamlet speak to you most.

Villa Roma Resort and Conference Center, 356 Villa Roma Road. The Villa Roma Resort offers spacious suites and guest rooms, complete with private baths and amenities to make you feel at home. Whether you choose a cozy standard room, spacious suite, or a charming villa, each accommodation is thoughtfully appointed with plush furnishings, contemporary décor, and scenic mountain views. Boarding House at Seminary Hill, 8 Hospital Road. The Boarding House at Seminary Hill is an homage to the Catskill of old, where hospitality came first, offering eight separate apartment-style lodging units each with their own living room and kitchenette. All accommodations have access to the communal amenities, and provides the ultimate experience of privacy and comfort with luxury hotel-style service and amenities.

Local studio Homestedt outfitted each apartment with Kilim rugs, luxury WRIGHT mattresses, and linen bed sheets. Kitchenettes feature single burner induction stovetops, a complete set of cooking pans, and service ware. Each apartment features at least one private bathroom, many with restored vintage claw foot tubs, and all with complimentary luxury bath amenities.

Western Inn, 22 Upper Main Street. The Western Inn, or Western Hotel is a notable 1852 Victorian-style mansion, now listed on the National Historic Register. All 12 guest rooms are on the upper floors of the Victorian mansion, and are designed to provide a relaxing feel with unique touches and calming color palettes. Most rooms offer a private en suite bath and are spacious enough to include a day bed to accommodate more than two people, and all rooms include grab & go breakfast, smart TVs, air conditioning, high speed WiFi, white cotton linens, hair dryers, and Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities.

Callicoon hosts an abundance of eateries, restaurants and cafes that range from easy grab-and-go options to a more upscale, sit-down dining experience. If you’re looking for craft brews or specialty cocktails to pair with your dinners, you’ve come to the right place.

Callicoon Brewing Co., 15 Upper Main Street. Callicoon Brewing Company is located in the newly renovated 1880s Olympia Hotel, overlooking the Delaware River. While the brewpub’s mainly known for its wide range of craft beer and cider on tap, their food menu offers a variety of options from finger foods that take you back to your childhood, belly-busting burgers and sandwiches, and several vegetarian options like the tempeh reuben and fries.

Besides craft beer on tap, the brewery offers a full bar with local and regional spirits along with bottled “regular” beer for your non-craft beer drinking friends. Canine companions are always welcome on the outside porch.

In addition to tasty meals and thirst-quenching drinks, Callicoon Brewing Company often hosts weekend activities like comedy events, paint and sips, live music, and more.

  Callicoon Caffè, 23A Dorrer Drive. The Callicoon Caffè specializes in all-day breakfast options, featuring homemade Belgian waffles and pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, fluffy omelettes, steak and eggs, and a variety of gluten-free options. In addition to all-day breakfast, you can taste test their lunch menu and enjoy cold or hot open sandwiches, gyros, pork or chicken souvlaki, juicy burgers, homemade soups and chili, and specialty salads. Pair your breakfast or lunch with a coffee, tea, milkshake, or pressed juice - or even an alcoholic beverage. Who cares, you’re on vacation!

Peppino’s, 31 Lower Main Street. After enjoying breakfast or lunch at their sister establishment, Callicoon Caffe, Peppino’s Restaurant and Bar offers classic Italian cuisine, including baked pasta dishes, hot subs, chicken, veal, and seafood dishes, as well as salads, cheesesteak sandwiches, and pizzas from fresh dough made daily, topped with their unique sauce and the finest blend of real mozzarella cheese. Peppino’s offers outdoor dining on their scenic back patio, and a full bar to pair your meal with a crisp glass of wine or craft cocktail.

Callicoon Wine Merchant and Tapas Bar, 30A Dorrer Drive. Located almost directly across the street from the Callicoon Caffe, the Callicoon Wine Merchant and Tapas Bar offers an eclectic array of organic wines and craft beers, and a sample of seasonal selections of local tapas and small plates in the sunny garden behind lower Main Street.

Choose to snack on flavored olives, meats and cheeses, fresh desserts, or try a small plate, like salt cod croquettes, deep fried artichokes with honey and lemon, pickled baby potatoes, poached carrots with honey dressing and cilantro, or seared pork tenderloin with tonnato sauce, paired with a glass of wine or craft beer from their expansive menu.

• The Farmhouse Project, 37 Lower Main Street, serves as the umbrella company for two ventures: Black Walnut Mercantile and Terrain & Table. Founded by “two gents restoring a 217-year-old farmhouse in Upstate New York,” Black Walnut Mercantile is one part artisan homewares showroom and shop, and one part hip, but relaxed cocktail lounge. The space is housed in what was once the grand lobby of the Delaware House Hotel. It’s clear the gents have put incredible thought and care in to every detail in the space, peeling back the decades to reveal tin ceilings, original woodwork and beautiful oak floors, recreating a gorgeous new space full of historic charm. The Callicoon Farmers’ Market, A. Dorrer Drive, Callicoon Creek Park. At the Callicoon Farmers’ Market, you will find many farms in addition to food producers and artisans offering wine, hard cider, pasta, condiments, prepared foods, baked goods, ice cream, jam, honey, maple syrup, herbal tea blends, skin care products, pottery, woodwork and much more.

Callicoon is a ‘producer only market’ meaning all vendors either grow or produce their own goods and operate within 75 miles ensuring patrons are only purchasing the freshest, highest quality, locally produced goods. Callicoon Theater, 30 Upper Main Street. The Callicoon Theater is yet another historic feature housed in the tiny hamlet, originally established in 1948. The Callicoon Theater is the oldest continually operated cinema in Sullivan County. This historic country movie theater recalls a bygone era, while providing a state of the art experience using the latest projection and sound technology, showing new releases, local film festivals, nostalgic throwback screenings, and live music events.
