Sheriff’s Office makes arrests as part of ‘No Empty Chair’ enforcement detail

DELHI - Delaware County Sheriff’s Office participated in the “No Empty Chair” traffic initiative April 24 – 28. The objective of “No Empty Chair” is to ensure safe and responsible teen driving and to further prevent accidents so that every young person is in their chair come graduation day. 

Across the week, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies took part in traffic enforcement across each of the following targeted infractions:

• Monday, April 24 – Speeding in school zones

• Tuesday, April 25 – Seatbelt/child restraints

• Wednesday, April 26 – Cellphone and texting

• Thursday, April 27 – “Operation Safe Stop”

• Friday, April 28 – Underage drinking/impaired driving

A total of 35 traffic citations were issued during the course of this initiative, including:

• Seatbelt, 2

• Unregistered motor vehicle, 2

• Vehicle equipment violations, 6

• Failure to stop for school bus, 1

• Disobey traffic control device, 1

• Failure to stop for stop sign, 1

• Operating a motor vehicle while using mobile device, 3

• Improper/no turn signal, 1

• Uninspected motor vehicle, 5

• Speeding, 13
