Ronald O. Pratt, 90, a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford.
Ron was born May 2, 1929 in Walton, the son of the late Delmar and Mildred Pratt. Ron graduated in June 1947 from Walton High School.
Ron proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a truck driver specialist 9th Infantry Division. Ron was honorably discharged Sept. 12, 1952.
Ron lived a good life until his health began to decline. He was fortunate enough to be placed in the Veterans home where he received outstanding care.
A simple man with amazing god given talents. He was a builder of many area homes, a mason, a bluestone quarry owner, and owner of Sunrise Campground. Ron enjoyed working at P+M concessions at the Delaware County Fair in Walton. Ron had amazing penmanship. He was an avid fan of history especially Ronald Regan, John Wayne, trains, Anderson Cooper and read every National Geographic magazine he could find.
He is survived by his loving family, Sister Eleanor Covell of Plant City, Florida; nieces Kathy Covell Davis (Scott), Cindy Roy DelSignore (Matt), and Mary Covell; nephews Harvey Covell (Claudia), Steve Covell (Beth), Robert Roy (Beth), Marshal Roy and Bruce Roy.
He is predeceased by his parents, Delmar and Mildred Pratt; Sister Joyce Roy; nephew Patrick Covell; and niece Shirley Barlow Covell.
Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A final goodbye will follow at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Kent Terchunian officiating. Burial at Walton Cemetery will take place in the spring at a day and time to be announced.
Memorial contributions in Ron’s memory may be made to the New York State Veterans Home, 4207 State Highway 220 Oxford, NY, 13830.
