Two Texas residents suffered minor injuries following a plane crash on private property near Russell Road in Franklin, Saturday, Aug. 26, according to a press release issued by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Ron Galuppo, 72, who piloted the plane, and his son Nathan Galuppo, 22, a passenger, from the state of Texas, were flying from Maine to Texas when the crash occurred. The May Day call indicated the aircraft was experiencing engine failure issues, the press release said.

Responding to the crash were deputies, Walton and Franklin volunteer fire departments, Delaware County Emergency Management Services and Delaware County Fire Coordinators. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also assisted.

FAA reports that the crashed aircraft is a CJ-6A Nanchang, a basic trainer aircraft with a top speed of 186 m.p.h. The aircraft experienced engine issues and crashed in a wooded area in Delaware County, the FAA website reports.

The Galuppos self-extricated from the downed-aircraft and were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton for minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing by FAA. The aircraft will be removed once the FAA completes its investigation.
