Looking for a few good stewards

Posted

In between the frigid days there are sure signs of spring and with that, the Friends of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower’s (FOBMFT) thoughts are set on June, when the tower on Bramley Mountain will be reconstructed.

FOBMFT are now recruiting tower stewards to staff the tower on weekends from opening day until Indigenous Peoples Day. A number of enthusiastic volunteers have already signed up, but more are needed to serve one or more weekend days this summer on the summit of Bramley Mountain, greeting visitors to the new tower.

The duties of tower stewards:

• Open the cab so that visitors can climb the tower, enter the cab and see the view as the fire observers saw it many years ago;

• Provide to visitors the history of the tower, its natural environment, and information about where to eat, drink and relax after their hike.

• Notify the Friends of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower of any concerns or situations that need to be addressed.

Volunteers will receive a cool tower steward “uniform” shirt and some other thank yous that will be announced soon.

FOBMFT are starting work on scheduling and developing a training plan, so the need to know who is interested in helping to bring the full experience of the fire tower to visitors is urgent.

Those who would like to join the group of tower stewards should email info@bramleymountainfiretower.org and let us know, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. (Note: those who have responded to a recent tower steward email do not need to reply again.)
