COLCHESTER - The Colchester Historical will unveil its Pomeroy Foundation Legends & Lore Cat Hollow Maker on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. The marker is at the pull-off at the beginning of the Cat Hollow Road (County Route 7/Route 206) The Pomeroy Foundation grant funded this beautiful red and white marker designed to promote cultural tourism and commemorate legends and folklore as part of our heritage. The marker tells the tale of the 1843 Colchester lumberjacks and their camp cook and how Cat Hollow received its name. After the marker unveiling people are invited to a reception at the Shinhopple Memorial Center, 1406 Trout Brook Road, for refreshments and an exhibit of images of vintage Catskill Cat tourism postcards.  Fleischmann historian, John Duda, will present a program on the History of Postcards and Postcard Collecting using local examples at 3 p.m.

John Duda is a long-time Trustee of both Skene Memorial Library in Fleischmanns and The Greater Fleischmanns Museum of Memories. He belongs to many historical societies in the area, and has done numerous postcard and history presentations throughout the region. He has served as the Secretary of the Kaaterskill Postcard Club for many years, and runs their Post Card Show twice a year. People are encouraged to bring their local cards to show and discuss.  Other topics for discussion will be proper archival storage of cards, dating cards with no postmark or message, what makes one card more collectible than another, and the changing dynamics of modern collecting. This program is free and open to the public. For more information or directions to the marker site or Shinhopple Memorial, email info@colchesterhistoricalsociety.org or call 607-363-7303
