Walton Softball Takes The Field

By Ron Galley

WALTON - Second year varsity coach Tera Talbot will lead the Walton Central School girls softball team and is looking forward to this season.

Overall, WCS has 13 girls on the varsity roster and 11 on the modified level. Two players were injured playing other sports and are not available.

When asked about the strength of this year’s team, Talbot said “experience.” The team, according to the coach, will be solid defensively.”

She will rely on the pitching of number one starter, Kylee Such and number two, Riley McAdams.

The team goals for Walton softball are to finish in the middle of the Mid-Athletic Conference (MAC) pack according to Talbot and they are looking to qualify for the sectionals.

She described the MAC as “fairly strong,” and added, “we hope to contend.”

Practice for the season has been taking place “mostly indoors,” due to the weather. Talbot said the girls did get out on three occasions, once in the parking lot, one time in the outfield and one time on the field. The team already has experienced one postponement due to weather and poor field conditions.

This year’s approach to the game, according to Talbot is, “defense wins games. We can score as many runs as we want to, but we have to stop the other team from scoring.”
