Anthony Morgano/The Reporter The 2019 First Cast Ceremony to commemorate the beginning of trout fishing season was hosted at Wulff Run, located on Old Rte. 17 between Roscoe and Livingston Manor, on Saturday, April 6. Although fishing season began on April 1, the First Cast ceremony takes place on the first Saturday of the season. New York state’s 19th District Representative Antonio Delgado joined various fishing guides and members of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum (CFFCM) in the river for the celebration.

“Here’s to the first cast of the 2019 season,” Delgado remarked before releasing his line into the river.

Delgado emphasized that it was his first time fly fishing, but his teacher said that he was a natural.

“He did a great job out there, and he picked up the motion quickly,” said Jeff Phalen, a licensed guide.

“It’s all about spotlighting different things that make this district great,” Delgado explained. “There is no better place in terms of aesthetics, value and lifestyle.”
