Athlete of the Week

Azalyn Brunson Azalyn Brunson South Kortright Central School junior Azalyn Brunson has been a standout on the basketball court for a couple of seasons and on Sunday, she led the squad to a 65-35 domination of Section XI champion Smithtown Christian at the Floyd L. Maines Arena.

Brunson finished with a team-high 18 points and nine boards and she had limited playing time in the second half of the ball game.

The 17-year-old said she has loved basketball for as long as she can remember.

“It’s such a good stress reliever and you have teammates that’ll be your friends forever,” she added. “This year has been unforgettable, we set up goals in the beginning and have checked almost all of them off. In the off season, I play AAU, and work with Jimmy Quarino and my Dad at the Hobart Activity Center every week, as well as open gyms.”

Brunson plays soccer at South Kortright and is involved in multiple extra curricular activities. She takes time out in the spring time to focus on her ball game. She said she would enjoy playing hoops at the next level.

“I could see myself playing college basketball when the time comes,” she said.
