Congressman Opens Delhi Office

Lillian Browne/The Reporter DELHI - Congressman Antonio Delgado, representing New York’s 19th Congressional District, celebrated the opening of his Delhi office, located in the County Office Building at 111 Main Street, with approximately 50 well-wishers and constituents on Monday, Feb. 4.

In attendance was Delaware County Farm Bureau President Duane Martin who briefly discussed the implementation of the recently passed Farm Bill as well as infrastructure issues related to climate change. Those issues included access to funding for biodigester construction to convert methane gas generated by cows into electricity which would, in turn, reduce a farm’s carbon footprint while capitalizing on renewable energy.

Lillian Browne/The Reporter Martin also provided Delgado’s staff with a list of farm bureau priorities. Topping that list is the concise clarification of regulations that govern waters of the U.S. violations.

As a member of the House’s Agriculture Committee, Martin is hopeful that Delgado will make meaningful progress on the issues that concern Delaware County farmers.

In addition to the Ag Committee, Delgado sits on the Small Business and Infrastructure and Transportation Committees.

As a member of the Small Business Committee, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce President Ray Pucci said he looks forward to working with Delgado to enhance a business friendly environment at the federal level. “I’m optimistic that our new Representative’s commitment to economic prosperity for the entire district, not just the downstate region, will help create the necessary climate for our businesses and communities to thrive,” Pucci said.Delaware County Industrial Development Agency Chairman Jim Thomson, center, and Delaware County Chamber of Commerce President Ray Pucci, left, greet Congressman Antonio Delgado during Monday’s open house Delhi. “I will do everything in my control to be your voice and to vote in a way that reflects your will,” Delgado told the crowd. “What I can control for certain is how engaged I am here; and, I want to be here. A lot. I want you to feel like I am an extension of you. That’s it; not beholden to anybody but you.”

Delaware County Democratic Chairperson Kathleen Hayek was among those to welcome Delgado and celebrate the opening of his Delhi office. The event, she said, demonstrates Delgado’s transparency, openness and willingness to listen to everyone.

The Delhi office will be open Tuesdays and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment.

A new office in Oneonta will open on Feb. 7 at 189 Main Street, #500 and will be open Thursday and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.

The offices are a place for 19th Congressional District residents to call, email, or stop by in person to share their views. Constituents can also receive assistance with federal services, from farmers applying for grants to seniors having issues with their Social Security benefits to veterans needing more information on VA services.Tahira Clark,  a member of the Delaware County Bar Association and  a constituent, welcomed Delgado to Delhi at Monday’s open house.

“I am here to serve. No amount of contact is too much. No question will be rejected or dismissed,” Delgado assured those in attendance.
