Nex-To-New Needs Volunteers

The Nex-To-New thrift store in Sidney is in danger of closing its doors and needs help from the community to continue its operation. The store is presently closed until further notice as the board of directors searches for a treasurer for the organization.

The Nex-To-New Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that has been assisting the communities around Sidney for almost 50 years. The store accepts gently used items such as clothing, household goods, books, games, puzzles, décor items, and small appliances during business hours. The goods are sold at minimal prices.

Sale proceeds, after paying the rent, heat, electric and garbage, are donated back to local charities in the area. It is a win-win for all as Nex-To-New provides a place to for people to donate unwanted but usable items. The corporation gives back with monetary donations to other non-profit organizations. Some of the grants in the past years have gone to The Friends of the Libraries for Sidney, Masonville and Sidney Center libraries, Delaware Valley Humane Society, Every Dog’s Dream, HALO, Cat Sanctuary, Head Start and area nursery schools, and the Sidney Food Bank.

The thrift shop opened in October 1970 under the direction of Delaware Opportunities has been run entirely by volunteers since that time. Today, Nex-To- New operates a store at 11 Main Street, Sidney but more individuals are needed. A treasurer is needed to oversee the financial portion of our operation and to maintain its 501c3 status. People are also needed to work at the store for a day or two weekly or a few hours a day. The volunteers are trained and assist with sorting, pricing, hanging and displaying merchandise, packing, straightening the sales floor and running a basic cash register.

Volunteering is rewarding. Call Sheila at 607-437-4998 or email for further information about volunteering.
