Elsa is a hen from a flock of seven, was broody and wanted to sit on eggs.

According to Phyllis Dandignac of Delhi, the surrogate hen belongs to her granddaughter.

“We got 12 eggs from a cousin (Roger) and about 10 eggs hatched so far,” said Dandignac.

She said that the chicks are a Bantam breed, smaller than their mother. The chicks have feathers on their legs and are a brown and gray color.

“So far, it seems there are more male than female,” said the Delhi resident.

According to Elsa’s owners, Dan and Stacey Sulger, their hen is “a wonderful mother.”
