Walton Boys’ Soccer Sweeps Hosts in Sidney Fall Classic Tournament

SIDNEY — The Walton boys’ soccer team took charge of host Sidney in the championship game on Saturday. The W-Warriors’ defense did not allow the S-Warriors to get a shot at the goal in the 4-0 rout.

The visitors also split the scoring in the game. Lucas Walley, Tommy Maguire, Isaac Vesterfelt and Clayton Quinn shot the ball into the net, and Quinn, Zach Coviello and Vinnie Escobar provided assists.

The winners got 13 shots and 12 corners, and also did not allow a corner. Sidney goalkeeper Andrew Vinal was credited with eight saves, and Walton ’keeper Kaiden Vernold did not need to make any stops.

Walton Head Coach Justin Preston commented that the defense of Charles, Escobar, Coviello and Walley were the keys to the shutout. His team now sports a 4-0 record.

On Friday’s opener, the Warriors defeated Whitney Point, 6-1. Maguire tallied four of the goals, with Quinn and Anthony Cetta scoring the other two goals, and Vesterfelt and Drew Gates provided assists.

The S-Warriors’ Friday win was a 3-2 decision over S.S. Seward which was decided by a penalty shootout. Brayan Augustine and Anthony Morris scored in the regular time, with Connor Bacon providing an assist.
