SK Topples Purple Devils In Mayor’s Cup Final

Brian Horey/The Reporter STAMFORD - It’s another Mayor’s Cup championship win for the boys in blue.

South Kortright defeated Franklin 6-2, scoring four goals in the second half to take home the victory on Saturday, Sept. 8.

“It took us awhile to get going; Franklin came to play and they did a great job defensively for most of the game,” said SK Coach Bob VanValkenburgh.

Quinlan Davis and Logan Kaufman each had two goals for SK and Davis also tallied an assist.

South Kortright’s Derek Burns and Ben Andersen each scored a goal in the win as well.

“Stanley Andersen is always around the ball and Michael Premura-Milton creates a lot out of opportunities on the wing,” added the SK coach on the offensive side. “Defensively, Xander Andrades was solid and Chris Champlin is always hustling.”

“He had a great game,” Van- Valkenburgh commended and added that the Mayor’s Cup is often a highlight each season.

“Mayors Cup is always fun for the kids to get a chance to hopefully play under the lights and compete against some other teams,” he said.

Franklin keeper Cole Ruff stopped six attempts.

Laurens defeated Jefferson 4-0 in the consolation bracket of Mayor’s Cup in Stamford on Saturday.
