SK Grad O’Connor Captains RPI Cross Country

Photo Courtesy of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Sean O’Connor, a graduate of South Kortright Central School and a resident of Stamford has been named as a captain of the men’s cross country team at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for the second consecutive year.

He has run in 21 career meets, including a 69th place finish at last year’s NCAA championship in a time of 25 minutes and 18.2 seconds. He had six top-10 finishes, including a third at the Liberty League meet and eighth in the regionals, as a junior. The aeronautical engineering major is a multiple All-Liberty and All-region honoree, including first team in each of the past two seasons.

RPI this year features four seniors, 10 juniors, seven sophomores and 11 freshmen. It is coming off a season which finished 14th in the nation. The 2017 Engineers earned an automatic berth to the NCAA championship meet, based on its second finish in the NCAA Atlantic regional. It was the eight top finish for RPI, which won five meets and finished second in two others.
