On Sunday the Broncos faced Villa Maria and defeated them handily with a 15-0 win. According to the SUNY Delhi athletics website, the team is off to their first undefeated start through their first four matches since 2007.

South Kortright Central School 2016 graduate Brianna Laing tallied a hat trick and provided two assists. During the game, teammates Kaitlin McGuiness, Delaney Meagher and Alexa Scaglione each had two goals. Olivia Curry, Sara Fischetti, Samantha Friedman, Katie Herba, Kelsey Innes and Madeeah Oranchak all contributed one goal of their own.

Laing is a first year nursing student at SUNY Delhi and transferred from Hartwick College to begin her sophomore year. Laing said she couldn’t be happier with the transition and being a Bronco.

“So far my experience playing a college sport at Delhi has been amazing,” she said following the game on Sunday. “The girls on the team were so welcoming and made my transition so much easier. I missed playing soccer and it’s a great feeling to have amazing teammates to play with.”

She said that college soccer is a lot different from high school - it is more fast paced and every game is a competitive one.

“But I think that’s what makes it so enjoyable. This summer to prepare, I went to the gym about four to five times a week and went to the soccer field and played with some girls from high school about twice a week.”

She said it feels “great” to be undefeated.

“Coming in, I don’t think anyone on the team expected such a great start but we have some really great players who contribute a lot to the team. We couldn’t have won any of our games without every single person on the team.”

Head coach Lauren Mackay and the Broncos look to continue their charging start on Thursday when they welcome Keystone at home for a 4p.m. match.
