Contributed Photo Bear Creek Sportsmen hosted the 20th annual Dual Sport Quarry run this past weekend in Hancock. Riders camped at the firemen’s field on Friday, Aug. 3, before getting up early to hit the trails.

This year’s quarry run featured 490 riders, with around a quarter of them finishing the entire trail either day. Saturday and Sunday’s trails went in different loops, but in total the ride was close to 200 miles.

The riders launched each morning starting at 8 a.m. and the last riders were back around 8:30 p.m. “It’s more of a marathon than a race,” explained Otto DeJager, one of the organizers for the event.

The Hancock Fire Department hosted a barbecue Saturday for the riders to meet with the owners of the property that they were riding over.

“The biggest thanks goes to all the property owners,” DeJager said, “who allow us access to their land.”
