Melissa Johns/The Reporter The 2018 Downsville Firemen’s Queen and Princess Pageant was held Thursday, May 17, at the fire hall and was hosted by the Downsville Fire Department and Ladies’ Auxiliary.

The princess title was just added to the pageant this year, according to Downsville Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary member and pageant organizer Colleen Griffith. Local girls age 12 to 15, were welcomed to join this portion, while queen contestants ranged from ages 16 to 18.

“This was initiated to provide more opportunities to young girls in the community, to foster community connection and to advance the knowledge of Fire Prevention and Safety to younger students,” said Griffith.

Contestants were quizzed on fire and safety knowledge and participated in a formal wear competition. At the end of the day, Downsville Central School junior Alexis Fox was crowned queen and seventh grade student Stephanie Foote, princess.
