Franklin Girls Upset Dragons, Reach Finals

Benjamin Patton/The Reporter SCHENEVUS — The Franklin girls’ soccer team, ranked fourth in the Tri-Valley League standings pulled off an upset in Saturday’s semifinal game against top-seeded host Schenevus. Kayla Campbell tallied the game-winner in overtime, giving the Purple Devils a 2-1 win and a berth in the league championship against second-seeded Laurens on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wright National Soccer Complex in Oneonta.

The Devils got the first score from Zoe Warren in the first half, but the Dragons countered in the second half with a goal by Alexis Hults.

Campbell’s goal came on a crossing pass from Kristen Brownell with 6:19 remaining in the extra session.

Franklin outshot the host squad, 13-5, and received six corner kicks to the Dragons’ three. Schenevus goalkeeper Alexis Pearcy was credited with 10 saves, while her Purple Devil counterpart, Molly McCaughlin, had three.
