Lillian Browne/The Reporter HOBART - There are three electric car station stations located throughout Delaware County. In Hobart located behind the Hobart Community Center, adjacent to the fire station, in Margaretville behind the Gottfried Building in the municipal parking lot, and in Delhi, behind the Delaware County Electric Cooperative Building on Elm Street.

There is no charge for motorists to charge their vehicles at the stations. The stations were largely funded through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

(NYSERDA) and O’Connor Foundation grants, according to Zill.

Transition Catskills is an organization comprised of residents who develop projects to strengthen the local economy, improve living standards and build community resilience.

Upcoming events sponsored by Transition Catskills include a “Repair Cafe’,” on Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Hobart. The event is an opportunity for people to repair broken or malfunctioning household items, with the assistance of “repair specialists.” The idea behind the Repair Cafe’, Zill said, is to fix items - such as lamps, toasters, radios, vacuums, clothing, etc. - so they don’t end up in landfills, thereby extending the life of landfills.

Transition Catskills will also hold an environmental lovers’ networking event “Green Drinks” on Oct. 20, from 5 - 7 p.m., at Union Grove Distillery in Arkville. The event is an opportunity to network and discuss and exchange ideas regarding renewable energy, recycling and other environmental friendly topics.
