Rosie Cunningham/The Reporter DELHI - Sarky’s Burgers & Wings, located at 83.5 Main Street in Delhi hosted its grand opening Tuesday.

The new business, owned by Erin and Sarkis Hand of Delhi, was celebrated by the Delhi Chamber of Commerce, who held a ribbon cutting to solidify the opening.

“We need to support the businesses we have and warmly welcome the owners,” said chamber president Hope Knapp Tuesday at the event. “We thought it was even more important to support Sarky’s because they are located off of Main street. There are not a lot of eateries open at night and soon, they have plans to be open seven days per week.”

“We have been very busy,” said owner Erin Hand of the business which opened Aug. 21. “We haven’t been able to breathe for the last six weeks but it has been wonderful. We have had a lot of college students eat in and a lot of take out - we do a lot of lunch business. The support that we have received has been great.”

According to Hand, Sarky’s employs four who work the front of the house, three kitchen staff and two part-time dishwashers.

Burgers, wings and much more are featured on Sarky’s menu. Garlic Parmesan, Sriacha BBQ, Teriyaki, Sweet Thai Chili and Grilled Cajun wings are on the menu. A black bean burger with all the trimmings, a buffalo blue burger and even a Delhi burger with cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, candied apples and peanut butter. In a addition to the six featured ground meat burgers, you can also build your own. There is also a variety of six different grilled chicken sandwiches such as the California chicken sandwich - cheddar cheese, bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato. A variety of salads, as well as starters - gravy-cheese fries, buffalo fries, Guinnessbattered onion rings and fried pickles are a few that grace the menu.

“We added mozzarella sticks to the menu and we have been smoking meats as well,” said Hand. “We had a great smoked, pulled pork and this week we have beef brisket. On Saturday, we smoked ribs and it was very well received.”

The couple moved to the Delhi area four years ago with their four children, all of whom attend Delaware Academy.

“We owned an Irish bar and grill in Vermont, but decided we wanted a change,” said Erin. “We moved into a converted barn - I wanted more space and we heard great things about the school district.”

The current location was formerly Streat Foods Latin Bistro and before that, Dairy Delight. There is plenty of parking off of Kingston Street behind the village basketball courts.

Hand said Sarky’s is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday, the business is open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. She added that once more staff is gained, the goal is to be open seven days a week.

“We also do catering, particularly for office parties, both on site and off site,” said Hand.
