The Walton Central School District recently purchased a Google Expeditions kit, which contains 20 virtual reality (VR) viewers, one teacher tablet and a router.

The kit will allow teachers to select from more than 500 expeditions of various content and lead their class on learning adventures.

Teachers at WCS have had experience with VR and Google Expeditions with Google Cardboard, but the purchase of the kit will provide easier student and teacher access to the devices necessary to run the program and eases curriculum integration.

Teachers had a chance to test the devices during their orientation prior to the start of school. They visited the islands of Hawaii and the San Diego Zoo. Last week administration were able to view the aurora borealis (Northern Lights), as seen from space and other areas of the planet.

At upcoming professional development sessions, teachers will learn how to use Google Expeditions. It is hoped the kit will be used in classrooms by later this year.
