Stamford Golf’s 80th Invitational Tees Off Friday

By Rosie Cunningham

STAMFORD — It’s that time of year - area golfers are gearing up to take to the Stamford Golf Club (SGC) for the 80th men’s invitational tournament.

Last year, Ryan Curran claimed the tournament trophy. He took the lead and won on hole 16 to defeat Kurt Swenson, five time winner of the annual tournament.

The tournament is dedicated to long-time member, supporter of the club Bill Osborne according to SGC pro Jon Langer.

Golfers will take part in qualifying stroke-play on Friday, beginning at noon, followed by two days of individual match play Saturday and Sunday within the flights.

“As of now (Tuesday), we have a field of 79 and we can field 80,” said Langer. “This is the only match play tournament of its kind in this area and it’s always a great weekend.”

Langer said the fee to play is $150 for non members and $100 for SGC members. Vasta’s Italian Deli and Bistro will be hosting an Italian buffet Friday evening and grilled chicken on Saturday.

For more information, contact the SGC at 607-652-7398.
