Girl Scout Troop 30631 will host the annual Flag Day Ceremony on Friday, June 16, at the Downsville American Legion starting at 6 p.m. Refreshments and desserts will be available. Anyone with retired or unfit flags can bring them to any of the flag-retiring boxes at the transfer station, East Branch Fire Hall or the Downsville American Legion.

The Downsville Fire Department thanks everyone who came Saturday night for the spaghetti dinner, and all who donated or worked.

Thank you to all that came to the benefit pancake breakfast Sunday morning for Dylan Tompkins at the Downsville Fire Hall and thanks to all who worked and donated.

Connie Youngs spent Saturday evening at her sister Angie Walker’s camper with her sister Josie Runne and the Walkers; she had a lot of fun.

Graduation for Downsville Central School will be June 23 at 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium; 17 students will graduate this year.

Miss Tyler Sheilds was named salutatorian for the class of 2017. She is the daughter of Frank Sheilds and Faith Brook. Tyler plans to study psychology at Keuka College. Her goal is to become a clinical psychologist. Jewel Alston has been name valedictorian. She is the daughter of Rondell Liddell and James Alston. Jewel plans to study biology at Cornell University and become a medical doctor. Best of luck to both of these ladies.

Downsville Firemen’s Field Days are coming up...Friday evening July 21 from 5 p.m. to midnight, there will be live music from 7 until 11 p.m. with Bead Collins and the Country Attitude. Then on Saturday, July 22 from 11 a.m. to midnight there will be music from 2 to 5 p.m. with Joint Effort, and then from 7 to 11 p.m. Bluestone Country. There will be a firefighter’s parade on Saturday, July 22, at 3 p.m. Fireworks at dusk Saturday night. Both days will have corn hole tournaments, games, raffles, food and cold beer, with a variety of craft vendors. Come and enjoy a good country time with folks that know how to party and have fun.

The 50th anniversary of the East Branch firemen’s fields days is June 30 - July 3, from 6 p.m. Friday evening to midnight Monday morning at Humble Park in East Branch. On Friday evening, the grounds open at 6 p.m., on Saturday and Sunday the grounds will be open from 8 a.m. until midnight, both days. Food, live music, corn hole tournament, softball tournament, beer tent, vendors, raffle, fireworks, bounce houses and more. Firemen’s parade Saturday starting at 6 p.m.

The Downsville Food Bank will be open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 21, for those that are unable to come in the afternoon, they will try to be open one night a month if this works better, otherwise it will only be open Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 15, there will be a Colchester Senior Citizens Meeting at the American Legion Hall starting at 11 a.m. Bring a dish to pass, your own table service and come prepared to help stuff envelopes. Hope to see you all there.

Tim and Kim Lacey went to the Poconos for the races for the weekend to celebrate there 25th wedding anniversary.

My sister Mary Charles of East Branch drove me to Johnson City last Wednesday, June 7, to my heart doctor appointment.

Thursday, June 8, Kevin Keesler took his son Chris to Rochester for appointments. Since Kevin had to be away, Barb Young and I ran the East Branch Food Bank for him.

June 25 is Pastor Dale’s last Sunday here. There will be a farewell party him and Laura and Ruth that day at the American Legion Hal in the afternoon.

There will be a Father’s Day breakfast Sunday, June 18, at the American Legion from 8 a.m. to noon. Free will offering at the door, in celebration of all fathers; takeouts available; menu includes pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage, home fries, toast, coffee , juice. Bring your dad, grandpa, boyfriend, husband or good friend, and enjoy a good, hearty breakfast.
