RESOLUTION 1 OF 2018
WHEREAS, the Walton Fire
District and Walton Fire
Department provide fire
and ambulance services
to portions of the Town of
Hamden via two methods:
direct service through the
Walton Fire District, a municipal entity governed by
a Board of Fire Commissioners, and services via
contract to the Walton Fire
Protection District, which is
a Town-administered special district for which the
Town of Hamden contracts
directly with the Walton Fire
Department to provide fire
and ambulance protection
services, and
WHEREAS, the Town of
Hamden has indicated its
desire to consolidate the
Walton Fire Protection District into the Walton Fire
District, by proceeding under Article 17-A of the New
York General Municipal
Law, also called the “New
N.Y. Government Reorganization and Citizen Empowerment Act.” This law
permits the Town Board to
initiate the consolidation
and/or dissolution of a special district, such as a fire
protection district, by resolution of the board, through
the creation and publication of a consolidation/
dissolution plan, with the
consent of the Fire District
Commissioners, and after
a public hearing is held on
the proposal, and
WHEREAS, the Town has
identified approximately
191 parcels currently contained within the Walton
Fire Protection District (depicted on the attached map
and identified individually
in the attached list) which
would be impacted by the
proposed change, as well

a public hearing on August 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.
at the Walton Fire Hall, 61
West Street Walton, to consider the consolidation of
the Walton Fire Protection
District into the Walton Fire
District, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the Walton
Board of Fire Commissioners will review the proposed
Consolidation Plan for this
district consolidation, and
determine whether to endorse the Consolidation
Plan, and
